Shaukat Shamim is currently CTO and Co-founder of Rhythm Networks.

Shaukat was most recently a Venture Partner and Chief Technology Officer at Neocarta Ventures, a $300 million early stage investment firm focused on technology investment. Shaukat joined Neocarta Ventures in July 2002 and has been involved with eight investments in the wireless and enterprise software sectors.

Prior to NeoCarta, Shaukat was one of the early employees at Yahoo, where he worked for 5 years. During his tenure at Yahoo, Shaukat pioneered the development of the instant messaging platform, Yahoo Messenger, which ultimately boasted one of the world’s largest online communities. Shaukat was responsible for the architecture, product vision and long-term product roadmap for Yahoo Me-ssenger and played key roles in the industry wide coordination over IMstandards.

Shaukat has also held senior technical and management roles at Symantec, responsible for rollouts of products including Norton Navigator (the first Windows 95 software product in the market), Norton NT Tools, Internet Fast Find, PcHandyMan, and Norton Your Eyes Only. Earlier in his career, Shaukat co-founded two different companies: Ensoft Corporation, ultimately acquired in 1994, which developed hazard management software for enterprises in the environ-mental industry and Pragma Systems, which provided system management and server softwarefor the Windows platforms.

Shaukat received his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin.
