Brain Rules: 12 Principles for Work+School

Why is multi-tasking a myth? Why even the best task chair in the world not as effective as standing? I also relate to how meditation plays into sleep and stress-related rules.

This site has some great videos that demonstrate these simple principles…

THE 12 RULES

EXERCISE | Rule #1: Exercise boosts brain power.

SURVIVAL | Rule #2: The human brain evolved, too.

WIRING | Rule #3: Every brain is wired differently.

ATTENTION | Rule #4: We don’t pay attention to boring things.

SHORT-TERM MEMORY | Rule #5: Repeat to remember.

LONG-TERM MEMORY | Rule #6: Remember to repeat.

SLEEP | Rule #7: Sleep well, think well.

STRESS | Rule #8: Stressed brains don’t learn the same way.

SENSORY INTEGRATION | Rule #9: Stimulate more of the senses.

VISION | Rule #10: Vision trumps all other senses.

GENDER | Rule #11: Male and female brains are different.

EXPLORATION | Rule #12: We are powerful and natural explorers.

Some iPhone product reviews

My favorite accessory is the BudCozy. It’s a fabric cover for earbuds that keeps away thetangles and looks great too.

Indexhibit

Another free tool for making websites. looks clean but not very robust on first glance.

A web application used to build and maintain an archetypal, invisible website format that combines text, image, movie and sound.

WordPress Mailing List Plugins

A great list of mailing list plugins for WordPress (link is offline as of 7/2011). I also found MeeNews at http://www.wp-newsletter.com/. I have not tried it but it looks fully featured.

But I suspect it will be hard for any of these plugins to keep up with all the features that a paid service like MailChimp offers. I recommend the simple plugin the MailChimp team makes. It makes the job of adding a sidebar newsletter signup form a breeze. Note that I often tweak the CSS to get the “subscribe” button to align right or match my theme in other ways.

In this article he needed the ability to export the user list in .csv format so it can be used in other programs (like CRM). UPDATE: When I had a client recently who used MailPress (which i can’t recommend) I was able to extract the email list from the WordPress database using phpMyAdmin and Excel but such a procedure is not for the faint of heart.

Community-based invention website: Quirky.com

interesting new site that invites anyone to submit and idea or contribute to an existing invention idea. profit sharing model (“influencers”) included.

the idea is to bring “community developed” products to the marketplace. Example: Marc Zech had an idea for a double-sided mini hard drive (one USB plug might hold personal data, the other work data). He submitted his notion to Quirky.com, and then, a few weeks later, the Split Stick is being manufactured. Read More »

Landing pages module for Magento

…by default Magento lacks a good way of including a group of products on a page if they are not all products from one single category.

now you can also filter the products on attribute value – For instance to show all red cell phones on one page…
