12 Ways to Integrate Twitter

I had problems using “Twit-ee” module for ExpressionEngine so I went hunting for solutions. This error kept coming up: “Oh dear – Twitter says your request is invalid … (Error 400)”. Adjusting cache settings didn’t help.

But using Twitter’s own embed code worked well. I moved their .js file local and was able to tweak the output code easily from there and add my own classes.

UPDATE: Twitter’s own code will not display a “retweet”. so if you only want to display 1 tweet and your most recent is a retweet you get nothing. An unexpected error that they may not be aware of.

And there’s a method using google’s code.

Another great resource that includes my favorite – Twitter Tools for WordPress:

Here are 10 of the most useful ways to start turning your site readers (or your client’s customer base) into Twitter followers, and vice versa.

Type is the backbone of good web design

A nive overview of type on the web. note that on his site he’s using TypeKit in s subtle way. It’s subtle except for their ad that floats on the bottom right corner.

As web designers surrounded by trends and other design/graphic elements, we often forget the main reason people visit websites — to read and find information (quickly and easily).

Where should I place sidebar content and Google ads on my pages?

Check out the “heat map”. this applies to all sidebar content, not just google ads.

All other things being equal, ads located above the fold tend to perform better than those below the fold. Ads placed near rich content and navigational aids usually do well because users are focused on those areas of a page.

101 Ways to Promote a New Blog

Some great tips on this page. A good place to start brainstorming new ways to promote your small business. Also a reality-check for how much time you might be spending in one category at the expense of another.

You don’t have to do everything in this list, and some items will have a greater effect then others, but every tactic will at least drive some traffic, and any traffic is better than no traffic.

New options for fonts on the web: Typekit

I’ve read about  sIFR (or Scalable Inman Flash Replacement) and it sounded complex. Cufón aims to become a worthy alternative to sIFR, and easier to use in this test.

Typekit is a new way to use real fonts on the web. It’s a subscription-based service for linking to Open Type fonts from a variety of type foundries. Sounds crazy to have to pay monthly to use fonts but perhaps if it’s rolled into a web hosting account it can feel painless.

see: Pricing | Typekit.

UPDATE: I used typekit on www.ericamott.com and cheyennevc.com

NEW OPTIONS: Google has a free web font service. If you try it out let me know.
